We currently have an application written in ASNA Visual RPG which has a subsystem where jobs run which access objects and databases on the IBM i. We're currently migrating our IBM i to a platform where the objects and databases accessed by this application are stored on a dedicated iASP. However, there's currently no way within the configuration to set the ASP group to anything other than *SYSBAS. I know that it's possible within a job to execute the command SETASPGRP to access a specific ASP, however, does anyone know of a way externally to the job running to change the ASP group for that job?

    TIA.

I have no experience using this option, but on the SBMJOB command, there's this:

    Initial ASP group . . . . . . . INLASPGRP *CURRENT

    Might that do the trick?

    Cheers,

    Emmanuel

If these run in their own SBS, would it be possible to add a routing entry to call a program that does the SETASPGRP?

thanks for the replies. I managed to get around it by setting the initial ASP group on the job description of the technical user that the jobs run under.
