  • Skip page in between spool printing

    Hi all,
We got some issues in our company printing spool file reports in an Epson line printer (Epson FX 2175 to be specific). After a spool file is printed, a skip page is being ejected by the printer before printing the next spool file. This is somehow a waste of a page because we are using continuous paper for printing reports.
Does anybody encounter this issue? Hope you can share some ideas about this.
    Thanks.

Re: Skip page in between spool printing

    Hi Greg:

I'm not sure if this is your problem or not.

From a command line key chgoutq and prompt. On the second or third page there is a paramater JOBSEP.

    Job separators (JOBSEP) - Help

Specifies, for each job having spooled files on this
output queue, the number of separators to be placed at the
beginning of the printed output for each job. Each
separator contains information that identifies the job
such as its name, the job user's name, the job number, and
the time and date when the job was run. The number of separators can range from 0 through 9.

This parameter is used only by the printer writers, all
other types of writers will ignore the value specified for
    this parameter.
You didn't indicate that there was anything printed on the skipped page so this may not be your issue

Re: Skip page in between spool printing

      Hi GLS,

Thanks for your reply. I tried what you have suggested and it showed that the JOBSEP value of the outq is 0 which should mean there is no separator after printing.

My problem is that supposed i have a spool file with 3 pages and another spool file with 2 pages, when i print the first spool file three pages are printed and then a page is being ejected by the printer thus when i print the second spool file, there is a blank page in between. I want to eliminate the blank page in between.

I have checked and removed the skipb and skipa keywords but no effect.

Anybody have used Epson line printers and have this problem? Hope you can help.

      Thanks,
      Greg

Re: Skip page in between spool printing

Is this happening for ALL spooled files or just one?

If its all it is more likely to be the printer

If its just one program then its your program!

Can you tell us more about this problem?

Re: Skip page in between spool printing

most printers have a setting that tells it to print a separator page. is this happening if you print from a PC as well? check the printers settings.
