Isn't "good" and "greenscreen" a contradiction in terms? <running and ducking>

On a more serious note I use EDTF when I have to and the IFS editing capabilities of RDi when I have real work that needs doing.

If price is an issue then I know NetBeans can do the job - not sure about a base Eclipse install.

EDTF is about the best you can do in green-screen -- but that's not saying much. The key problem I have with green screen editors is that stream files often have data that's too large for an 80 or even 132 column screen. That makes it really difficult to insert or delete data from a line of text in a green screen editor, since the emulator can't insert or delete data beyond a single screen -- so you play games with shifting part of the data over, then shifting the other part over... it's just really ugly.

But, that's pretty much all you can do on a 5250 screen, because of the way 5250 works. It sends the image of a single screen to the emulator, then lets the emulator handle all of the editing controls until enter or a function key is pressed. So it can't work with something larger than a screen, because it only knows about one screen at a time. But the server can't handle the editing to make ti work nicely, because editing is handed off to the emulator -- so it's just a technology that doens't work well with stream files.

But, EDTF is about the best you can do.

Otherwise, if you're able to use a mapped drive and a PC program (highly recommended) you might try Notepad++. It's free, and works very well.

I knew you had a good one, but I couldn't find it with a quick Google, so I went with Batman :-)

Do you have to edit the files using a green screen editor?

Have you tried Notepad++ (free Windows editor)? It's far superior to the basic Windows editors, and gives you a whole host of additional functionality. It will also open large files (well 200mb at least).
