  • User Time Zone

    Hi All,

Anybody have any idea on setting individual users date/time to their locale. Have client in Central time zone but have remote users in UK GMT. We need to set their date/time accordingly.

    Thnx

Are we talking about the time they see on their screen or timestamp values?
You can change a job date but I'm not aware of a way to change job time.

I suppose you could always use QUTCOFFSET value to adjust the timestamp values accordingly but that would mean setting up a proceedure and using it in all appropriate cases.

Not sure if that helps. Just My 2 cents off the top of my head. I'll keep it on the back burner of my so called mind

      Re: User Time Zone

      Hi Bill:

      From IBM frequently asked questions:

      [qoute]

      Frequently asked question - General

How can users operate in different time zones on one iSeries without changing our applications?

A: To get this level of support on the iSeries, you will need a system that supports partitions (LPARS) so that you can setup a separate partition for each time zone. Assign user profiles to the partition for a group of users who will be working in the same time zone. Change the QTIME system value (CHSSYSVAL) to reflect the time in the time zone for each group of users. If you only want to change the hour and not the minutes or seconds, you may change the QHOUR system value for the partition.

But doesn't that virtually set up the user in a totally different "system"? Whole different set of libs...etc? Never worked with LPARS before.

          Yes... it does!

          It's like having 2 separate ISeries side-by-side.

Nope that's no good. User work in the same software/libraries regardless of location.

              Re: User Time Zone

I seem to recall something like this at one of my previous employers. I was not involved, so I can't fill you in on any of the details. But, from what I can recall, multiple interactive subsystems were set up, and each different user signed in to a specific subsystem. There was one for each US time zone. I don't know how the time offset was handled, though.

Sorry. But maybe this will give you some ideas, at least a new place to start looking

I did find a piece of software from at http://www.inprointernational.com/tznslk.htm which seems to do exactly what they want.

Just wish IBM would get themselves in gear and add user/job time zone supprt. It is there. On V5R3 or above, if you work your job you will see the time zone information but you can't change it.
