  • Temporary space - how is it cleared?

    Hello..............

I think I have a pretty easy question. I've printed a disk space report, and listed on there is a category for "temporary space". We did an IPL yesterday, and for some reason I thought that doing the IPL would clear out that space, but it did not. Is a RCLSTG required to clear it out? If not, what does clear that space out? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

What "temporary space" are you taling about? From wrksyssts?%

    CPU used . . . . . . . : 2.1
    % DB capability . . . . : .0
    Elapsed time . . . . . . : 00:00:01
    Jobs in system . . . . . : 1131
    % perm addresses . . . . : .010
    % temp addresses . . . . : .053

IPL is the only way I know how to decrease the % temp address.

Here is the temp space I am talking about:

      User libraries 26.88
      User directories 4.28
      Folders and documents .27
      QSYS 1.06
      Other IBM libraries 1.50
      Licensed Internal Code .76
      Temporary space 6.11

This prints off in the disk space report run via the PRTDSKINF command. Does that help?

could be qrplobj library for starters and possible qspl library, and yes the qrcl lib.

Clear qrplobj library. I do periodicaly.

could be left over comm. trace logs. there's a thread in the midrange.com lists about this going on atm. to get at them you'll have to go into SST
          Code:
          STRSST
          option 1 - Start a service tool
option 2 - Trace Licensed Internal Code
that will show you traces currently on the system and you can also delete the data, etc from there.

QRPLOBJ gets cleared on IPL...FWIW if you have anything in QRCL those are usually "corrupted" objects, etc. and you should really do a RCLSTG to ensure that nothing else is hosed.

Re: Temporary space - how is it cleared?

              Hi WLE:

Are you sure you are running on current data? PRTDSKINF uses data collected and placed in QAEZDISK or from the RTVDSKINF command.

The Print Disk Information (PRTDSKINF) command is used to print disk
space information that was stored in database file QAEZDISK or
QAEZDnnnnn by the Retrieve Disk Information (RTVDSKINF) command,
where 'nnnnn' is the ASP number of the independent ASP for which
disk space information was retrieved. The output with file name
QPEZDISK goes to the spool queue associated with the job using this
              command.
Note: RTVDSKINF is NOT an interactive command.

              Hope this helps

Re: Temporary space - how is it cleared?

You're correct. I was still running on my most recent collection of data, which was before our IPL. I did run a new retrieve job in batch and we still have temporary space, though not as much as before. Thanks for the tip.
