General "Noobie" Java and/or JMS question

Would anyone have suggestions or information on where to try and determine if the iSeries has the ability to communcate to a JMS Queue without MQ being in the loop? We are trying to replace an FTP process with JMS pub/sub architecture. I can do this with a tool via a WS call and JMS publishing, but we're looking at utilizing more of a "direct" connection to the JMS queue.

Any suggestions or "recommended reading" would be appreciated.

I wonder if it runs on the AS400? It says it will run on any Unix platform that supports Java so there's a good chance it will work.

Is that the sort of thing you were after?
