  • Mapping IFS drives ...

Howdy - I have shared an IFS folder, and in iSeries Navigator it shows up on the shared fiolders list. I right click on it and say to map network drive. But I get the error message unable to find network path.

It flashed up (only the first attempt) some message about lmhosts.

Anyone have some tips as to what I have to configure on the PC to be able to map these drives ?

did you check the lmhosts file on the PC to see if it had a "static" IP for the host name? perhaps that's your issue.

Also check that your Windows credentials match the iSeries

        Re: Mapping IFS drives ...

LMHOSTS.SAM has been updated with static IP info, as was HOSTS.

I just got a message "Unable to obtain IP address for server Qxxxxxxx" so it may not be configured in some part of the iSeries ...

Wierd - from windows I can ping, telnet and ftp to "system-name" so no idea why this function is acting different ?

You may need 2 entries in the address tables.
One with the systemname, and another as systemname.domain.com type entry.

There are a few things that require the "fully qualified" name, I don't recall if this is one of them.

Also, check that NetServer service is running on the system.

Got the entries covered in the host tables I think. How do I check the NetServer ?

Hmmm all that seems ok to me.

I renamed LMHOSTS.SAm to LMHOSTS but it made no difference.

Is there a port required for the firewall for this that I need to open maybe ?

Edit - Ports needed are .. (Blocked I am guessing ...)
                Network Drives as-file 8473 9473 (SSL)
                Network Printers as-netprt 8474 9474 (SSL)

in Navigator check to see what the systems netserver share name is and try that instead of the system name.

@Tom - seem to have trouble getting that info ... where does it live for us green screen clowns ?
Navigator is also reporting DDM issues in getting some info from the server ?

I think this little drive mapping thing is getting bigger ....

unfortunately the green screen doesn't have a "native" supplied interface for netserver. you'll need to code programs using the APIs. there is a open source toolkit that has these created already using the APIs but i forget what the heck it's called. here's a link to some info that might help you out http://www.think400.dk/adhoc_5.htm#eks0029
