  • STRSQL: Connect to remote server- how to get the remote job details

    Hi,

When we connect to remote server a job will be started in remote server. and when we disconnect, remote job should be ended.
please correct if m wrong .

I just wanted to know if the SQL session ended abnormally than how to find out whether the remote job ended or not.

    Thanks.

That depends on how the remote system is configured. I would normally expect that the remote job should not be ended. It should continue running, waiting for some new connection.

It's not clear what you want to know. Assuming that you are asking about the target system and about IBM default configurations and about current releases, connections will be handled by jobs named QRWTSRVR running in the QUSRWRK subsystem. The jobs are started and ended based on the 'prestart job entry' named QRWTSRVR in QUSRWRK.

General prestart job behavior is described for QRWTSRVR in the Database Prestart Jobs topic in the Information Center.

Once you feel comfortable with understanding prestart jobs, you might have other more specific questions.

hi Tom.. could you please guide on following questions

          1. If session gets disconnected without proper logout, prestart job will not end... than when it ends?

          2. can the same prestart job will provide service to next user making connection?

First, I'm not an IBM Support person, so anything I say is from basic experience. These questions should be answered by IBM Support if you need authoritative information that isn't in the Information Center

A prestart job ends when it satisfies the conditions in the associated prestart job entry. (Or when someone ends it with ENDJOB or other related command.) Without knowing how it is configured and how much work it has already done, I don't know any way to predict when it will end.

That is what it is expected to do, if it is configured that way. It is configured that way by default. It might not accept the very next connection because a different instance of QRWTSRVR might handle the next one. This prestart job will service the next connection that is routed to it.

There will usually be multiple QRWTSRVR jobs in order to handle multiple connections at the same time. Usually, the WRKACTJOB command will only show the ones that are handling connections. Press F14=Include to show the ones that are waiting for a connection. (Or use the WRKSBSJOB SBS(QUSRWRK) command.) As the number of connections increases, new instances will start automatically. And they will end automatically as the demand for connections decreases.
