External SQL server

Hello, is it possible from the iSeries to connect to an external database on a windows server, SQL server for example. We want to insert records in a table from a SQL statement in an iSeries sqlrpg. Is it possible?

I'm pretty sure the functionality for this sort of thing already existed when the iSeries was still around back in 2006.

Maybe a Linked Server in MSSQL will connect to the IBMi. I have read of it, but never tried it.
