I typically open source members for browse unless I know I want to change them. This keeps me from accidentally changing a source member that I only wanted to look at, or saving an unchanged source member, which updates the timestamp on the member.
Sometimes I browse a member and decide that I want to change it. I have to close it, navigate to the member name again, and open for edit. I had submitted an RFE (Request for Enhancement) in developerWorks to add another option to the member-name tab in LPEX. There are currently 3 options -- Close, Close Others, and Close All. I am asking IBM to add a fourth option when the member is open for browse -- Open for Edit. This option will tell the system to exit the browse and re-open the source member in edit mode.
If you'd like to have this feature, please go to developerWorks and vote for it.
Open Browsed Source Member for Edit (82886)
Thanks,
Ted
