  • SQL Server

Like most companies we have a few databases on MS SQL Server. Getting SQL server to talk to our iSeries isn?t a problem, SQL server can update and read tables on the iSeries using ODBC. However, trying to find a way to get the iSeries to talk to SQL Server has always been a problem.

That said, having a quick look at WDSC 7 it looks like you can set up a connection to SQL Server. I haven?t got this working (although I haven?t spent hours banging my head against the screen ? yet).

Before I spend hours/days looking further into this, will this (for example) allow me to request data from SQL Server and pass it back to the iSeries and if so does this work well?

    Re: SQL Server

There are several examples and links on this forum on how to do this with Java and/or from inside RPG.

If you want something simpler (for non-Java types) try RDBCONNECT from ProData Computer. Its a pay-for, but you can download a free trial to see if it meets your needs.

Thanks, I'll give RDB connect a try as I'm not too hot on Java.
