  • iSeries for Excel 07

    Hi All,
I have been using iSeries with excel 03. Now I have upgraded to excel 07 and still using iSeries although the data is capped at 65k rows - the limitation of excel 03.

Is there an update or patch for iSeries for excel 07 so that its not capped at 65k rows?

    thanks
    Sam

    Re: iSeries for Excel 07

    Hi sam:
The 65k limit is an excel limit not iseries limit.
I'm not sure if MS changed that limit or not.

Make sure you re-save the excel 03 file type as an excel 07.

The row limit was increased to over a million starting with the 2007 version.

          Hi,
Yes i understand the difference between 03 & 07. My question is what version of iSeries or what patch can I use so that I can use the million rows when downloading/uploading via iSeries?

          thanks

            Re: iSeries for Excel 07

There is no patch for the iseries, because the iseries doesnt care. The iseries isnt preventing excel from going beyond 64k rows. Excel is.

If you have a saved copy of a file in Excel 03, then the 64K limit will still be encountered if you open the file with excel 07. This is because the file is saved as an 03 file.

In order to extend the rows beyond 64K, you have to copy the excel 03 file to an excel 07 file, and then save it.

You would have to do this whether you saved the file to the iseries, or your local pc drive. If an excel file is save under 03, then the 64k row barrier will be encountered even if you open the 03 file with Excel 07, and even if its on your pc hard drive.

              Re: iSeries for Excel 07

I think people have miss understood my question...
I have an excel 07 file (extension .xlsx) when I use iSeries to download from AS400 it only downloads 65k rows. I know that there is at least 90k rows worth of data from my calculation. How can I get excel 07 and iSeries to download my 90k rows of data

Please elaborate. This statement makes little sense. Give us step-by-step actions you perform so we can understand the problem.

You have to change it in the excel file somewhere, I will see if I can dig up the link ...

Can't find the link ... but I think you are probably set to save in Compatibility Mode.

Click on the icon in the upper left corner of your worbook.
                    Click on Excel Options
                    Click on Save
Under Save Files in this Format, change to Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)
                    Click OK.
Close your worksheet and go back in.

I think everyone is missing my problem here.
I will ask my question a different way....who can use iSeries in excel 07 and download more than 65k rows?

                            1. Does the BIFF8 setting need to change ?
                            2. Does the download dtf, tto, whatever need to be rebuilt ?
                            3. What version of CA are you using ?
