  • New spool to PDF conversion tool in V7R2 MMAIL Oct. 22, 2014

A new command, MMAIL/CPYSPLFPDF allows to convert *SCS and *AFPDS spool files to stream file PDFs
and is totally integrated into MMAIL e-mail sending process.
It requires at least V7R2 and requires option 01 (AFP to PDF Transform) of the 57xx-TS1 product be installed.
As of today this is the cheapest and easiest IBM i solution for converting spool files to PDF.
    See page http://mmail.easy400.net/html/othutils.htm#cpysplfpdf .

Hmmm... you've had a CPYSPLFPDF utility for a long time. Why does it now require 7.2? (The TS1 product was introduced with 6.1.)

Before now there has never been a utility named CPYSPLFPDF within MMAIL.
There is a utility named CVTSPLFPF, a freeware which has problems with medium/large size spool files.
Another utility within MMAIL is CVTSPLFPDF, but it takes only *SCS files.
MMAIL also provides e-mail interfaces for
      - IPDF (*SCS only)
      - AFPTOOL (charge product) from Brad V. Stone
      - IBM INFOPRINT (charge product)
Problem was that MMAIL was missing a free reliable tool to convert to PDF *AFPDF spool files.
With V6R1 the user got the ability to generate a PDF instead of a spool file through an override to the printer file. MMAIL supported an easy e-mail interface to that.
With V7R2 the user has now the ability to generate, via command CPYSPL, a PDF stream file from an existing *SCS or *AFPDS spool file. This does not require a developer to change a bit in its existing applications, still allowing to generate PDFs from his traditional spool filesat zero cost.
MMAIL is now providing a command, CPYSPLFPDF, which takes advantage from the new features of command CPYSPLF and provides easy interface to its e-mailing features.
For a complete description of MMAIL support for spool file to PDF conversion and e-mailing, see page http://mmail.easy400.net/mmailh/othutils.htm#10 .
