    Re: As400

    Hi,

The AS/400 doesn't exist anymore. It has been replaced 10 years ago by the iSeries :
    - AS/400 (1988 – 2000)
    - iSeries (2000 – 2004)
    - System i5 (2004 – 2008)
    - Power Systems (since 2008)

Great answer Jean-Michel - I would think the highest use of the AS400 is in the HOME.
All my answers were extracted from the "Big Dummy's Guide to the As400"
and I take no responsibility for any of them.

Please clarify what you mean by life. Certainly people have very old machines going back to the 36 that are still running today. Do you mean how long until IBM renames the platform again?

LOL my guess on the renaming would be sometime in the next 2 years if tradition holds...

The AS400 by various names, is used widely in insurance, healthcare, banking, manufacturing, and gambling. I couldn't tell you who has the most, but its often found where a system just HAS to be reliable AND secure.

One of the better paying jobs out there. Unfortunately, it also gets you a trip to a Federal "pound me in the @#%@#%@#%" prison.

                    Re: As400

I remember being shocked when I was sitting in a casino at a blackjack table and noticed an As400 signon screen on the pit boss' computer. I wish I lived somewhere near a casino. That's one industry I would enjoy working in.

Speaking of Office Space, there is a movie theater in my area called "Arlington Cinema & Draft House." Great place to watch a movie and drink beer. They have a Bi-Annual TPS Report Manager's Meeting. I won the Bill Lumbergh impersonation contest once.

Note: The next TPS meeting is May 20th.
