Well, I knew it would happen eventually...over the weekend I lost the load source disk drive on my AS400 (the Innovative Systems guest account machine). Fortunately I saw the message on QSYSOPR a few days ago about the imminent failure and ran a successful full system backup. (Whew).
I didn't exactly have the same disk drive that was in the drive caddy (an IBM ultrastar) but I did have a few spares laying around from a model 270. So I pulled the drive from the 270's caddy and placed it in the 170's drive caddy. IPL'd from tape and the system didn't complain about the drive. So...I selected the option to restore the LIC from tape. There must be some data on the replacement drive as it wouldn't install since there wasn't enough room on the drive for the LIC. I think I need to wipe the replacement drive but couldn't see how to do that in DST. The last time I did something like this I seem to recall that I had to move the unit out of the load source position to wipe the drive. Does that sound familiar or is there another way without moving the drive?
