5250 Colors go bye-bye

We are experiencing a problem and I can find no hint of this being reported anywhere, I'm hoping someone here has an idea of what is happening to us.

At times a 5250 session will stop displaying the colors indicated in the DDS and displays fields in only the default color.

Thanks for your time and effort with this problem.

What we know;

OS V6R1M0

1. We are using IBM Personal Communications iSeries Access for Windows WorkStation Program versions 5.8+
2. The colors go away during a session
3. Different sessions on the same PC don't have the problem
4. All apps in a session are impacted. We have a written a pgm/dds with only color text fields and this confirms problem is not pgm/dds specific
5. All desktops and laptops are Dell
6. Reported only on locally attached devices (not 100% on this because of low remote activity, am trying to confirm)
7. DSPATR(HI) is not affected, continues to display White

I'll post more analysis as I can get it.

are all screens compiles with rstdsp(*YES)

Do you have some external calls that have screens that are 132?

RSTDSP(*YES) is our CRTDSPF default, no 132 column screens.

I've seen this before....It was because of keywords in a window from an external call.
Can you narrow down when it happens?

(you have dummy records on all windows with keyword ASSUME?)

There may be one program common to the problem, I'll try to isolate that.

Are you saying i should or should not have dummy window records with assume in my dspf?

personally i've never used dummy records with ASSUME just haven't ever needed it. why add the additional garbage when it's not needed?

In the pgm I suspect is the culprit, the windows have no special keywords.
These are the keywords in the displayed subfile control record;
KEEP
RTNCSRLOC(&RCD &FLD &POS)
RTNCSRLOC(*WINDOW &ROW &COL
OVERLAY
SFLDSP
SFLDSPCTL
SFLCLR
SFLEND(*MORE)

Our systems guys just told me that IBM has responded with a known OS problem and PTF they think applies to this problem. I would like to wait and see if this PTF fixes the problem. Thanks for your input on this. I will post the PTF number when I get it and if it fixes the problem.

The APAR ID for this problem is SE44052 and the PTF that fixes it is si42132. That PTF is on cume 1102 so, if you apply either of the 2 latest cumes (1256 or 2122), you will get the fix for this issue.
We applied these last night and today the problem seems to be fixed.

Those guys and gals at IBM have waaaaaaaay too much time on their hands if they are busy screwing up the 5250 data stream.

Maybe they are attempting to jam another color into the mix -- I think maybe Gamboge..
